The Third Virehnai war started in the year 238, as part of ‘The Crisis of the Third Century.’” Elaina laughed. “What a dumb name for a war. The Virehnai who took part in the siege of Aquileia didn’t even realize it was the first skirmish in the Third Virehnai War; by that time, there were always Virehnai fighting one another, whether it was because of treachery or somebody taking offense.

This time, it wasn’t so much alliances with humans at fault. The Roman empire’s problems were destabilizing everything, including the Virehnai living in their lands. The Roman empire was too big and stretched out; there wasn’t consistent leadership and they were fighting too many enemies and battles at once. Those battles were being taken advantage of by the Virehnai clans as well. It might’ve ended with that, except that it became a faction war. Someone assassinated one of the last remaining original children of the First Flames. The guilty person was Draz’kul, and the Virehn who died was Sulehnai. The elders tried to calm everyone, but it didn’t work. The human war lasted for 100 years; the Virehnai component was almost that long, but not quite.
