There were multiple Virehnai clans involved, that were primarily Draz’kul, but one of them was Sulehnei. The downfall came about because of blood bonds and oaths between humans and their Virehnai patrons, as well as the Virehnai and the humans both getting involved in human politics. The Virehnai made bonds and alliances with humans that put the humans at a loss.

The humans the Virehnai formed bonds with were royalty, who already had bonds, oaths and allegiances in place based on loyalty, relationships and marriages. Once the additional blood bonds and oaths they formed with the Virehnai were added to what already existed, it didn’t work. It put humans and even some Virehnai into situations where they had to make nearly impossible choices; many went back on their oaths and allegiances to humans and Virehnai patrons multiple times. They were trying to keep all of their oaths and alliances, even when they were at odds. It didn’t work, and left scores of humans dead, along with a great number of Virehnai. There were enough people suddenly aware of the Virehnai, dead or alive, that it drew attention to them as a group, and came close to outing them. Most of the ‘knowledge’ humans have about ‘vampires’ come from this time period, and this area of the world for that exact reason, along with those who tried - mostly unsuccessfully - to hunt us. The Compact came about as a result and was an answer to what happened in the Fourth War.
