Amalie Bisset was born in 1906 in Concarneau, France. Her mother was an oathsworn housekeeper for Clan Robichaux at their home in the old section of Concarneau.,and her mother’s brother Pierre was the bloodsworn head of their human family. In 1926 at the age of 20, the beautiful, and vivacious Amalie got very sick, and was going to die. Many who were tied to the Robichaux family in the area by oath or blood approached Michel’s son, Johannes - and begged them to turn Amalie. “It would be a waste if someone so beautiful and kind were to leave us.” After hearing so many times from people, he visited her Uncle Pierre, to make sure that making Amalie a Virehn wouldn’t make him angry on his son Clement’s behalf. When he, too, said to turn her - that’s exactly what he did. He had her moved from the hospital to her parents’ home - and Johannes became Amalie’s sire.

The turning carried a bit of weight to it, as Johannes was the presumptive heir of Michel should anything happen to him. Much as he tried to keep things on the straight and narrow, Amalie had trouble tiptoing around people who now no longer knew how to treat her. When Johannes went home to New York - she went with him. When one of her sisters married the following year, both she and Johannes went back to Concarneau for the wedding. While visiting home, with friends and loved ones surrounding them - they realized they were in love.

She and Johannes, at the beginning of Tales of Blood and Eternity, were planning on taking the vows of Khestara Khar’virehn - a Virehnai bloodoath-binding roughly equivalent to a human marriage, that also binds their souls and fortunes.

Unfortunately, Johannes died in a horrific car accident on I-95 near Newark. While she was shaken, torn and trying to figure out how she would live without him, at least she is comforted by the fact that her human friend, Elaina Jacoby was nominated by the Sethari elders of Clan Robichaux to take Johannes’ place. She spent quite a bit of time training the newest Virehn. Only a week after Elaina is made Virehn and ascends, someone gets into an elevator with them - and the virehn tries to kill Elaina. Amalie dies at the hands of someone who was turned Virehn off the record. The rest of Not Quite Human delves into exactly what happened, and why. Revenge can wait a LONG time.
